30 Minutes to a delicious meal!
50We all seem to be in a hurry to get over with that cooking.
I quite enjoy it though...soothes my nerves.
But let's get to work now...here's a couple of combos and the approximate time that each item takes to cook.
Of course all items on a suggested menu must be worked on simultaneously to achieve the 30 mins target.
Rice, Dal(lentil) & Vegetables
Rice (plain steamed or Jeera(cumin seeds) & Onion Pulao) made in a pressuer cooker takes about 10 minutes to cook.
Dal - 5 - 7 mins (pressure cooked) followed by seasoning with fried onions, garlic, jeera (cumin seeds) and green chilles - about 5 mins
Vegetables of your choice - diced and boiled (that takes about 10 - 15 mins) and then stir fried with preferred spices in a frying pan - 3 to 4 mins
- Chop vegetables and biol them in water with a tsp of salt.
- Rinse and soak rice.
- Pressure cook the dal (moong or toor).
- Chop onions finely (for both rice & dal)
- In the pressure cooker add some oil to heat, add cumin seeds and onions. Fry for about half a min. Add washed rice and double water. (If rice is one bowl then water should be twice that same bowl)
- Pressure cook on high flame till you hear 4 - 5 whistles. Remove from flame and keep aside till steam is out.
- Remove dal from cooker and mash while hot. Add some water to dilute. Heat oil in a pan, add cumin seeds, one green chilly, halved lengthwise, chopped onions and garlic. Fry till onions are light brown. Add dal and seasoning and mix well. Cook for about 3 - 4 minutes.
- Heat oil in a pan. Add cumin & mustard seeds. Add vegetables. Add spices (as per preference). Mix well and cook for a min.
- Add some watrer to make a thin gravy. To get a thick gravy you can add coconut milk of corn flour mixed in water.
- Remove from flame after a few minutes.
The rice in the menu can be replaced with chapaties or parathas.
